Artist's Statement
I paint because I need to tell stories. Raised "to never mind the lines" and that "it is okay to be a square peg in a round hole", I paint by improvisation and appropriation.
My art is homage to the German Expressionists, the Fauvists, and the Surrealists. And in the end, the strokes telling my stories coalesce into a manifestation of their own.
The dominant metaphor for my art is life itself. My non-representational paintings begin with a serene core but develop into layers of expression; while my figurative art captures fleeting moments in time.
My earlier avocation as an art therapist, author, and illustrator positioned me well to tell stories on canvas. I hope your own memories and emotions will blend with my compositions to make you stop for a minute and discern your own interpretation from the canvas.
